How to install Wordview into HUDplus
Step 1: Install the free wordview program: Click on Prospective HUDplus users > wordview links. The Microsoft site should appear. Click on Download and run the installation program. Don't get confused with the name "wdviewer.exe". The name of the installed program will be "wordview.exe" When it finishes, close off everything and get back to the start button.
Step 2: Locate where on your computer the wordview.exe program was installed: Click on Start > Search> Files or Folders> In the top field type in wordview.exe Leave the middle field blank, and make sure the third field searches the correct drive. Usually it is local hard drives (C:). Click on search. While it is searching, make sure the search includes subfolders. In a few moments, the results area should show which folder contains the wordview.exe file. Write the value shown in the "in folder" column down on a scratch piece of paper. If you see dot dot at the end of the value, make the width of the column wider to see the full contents.
Step 3: Determine the short folder names for the location. For example, wordview installed itself on my computer in c:\program files\microsoft office\office11. The short folder names for that location on my computer is c:\progra~1\micros~3\office11 The location on your computer will be different than my computer, therefore it is necessary to check your computer exactly. Click on Start > Run > type in CMD and click on OK. Type in CD\ and tap enter to move to the root folder. Type in DIR /X and tap enter. Both the short and long filenames are shown. Determine the short folder name for the first folder identified in step 2. In my case, it was program files, so the short name was progra~1. (The squigly character is called tilde.) Next, move to that folder by typing in cd\program files and tap enter. Now type in DIR /X and tap enter and get the short name for program files. In my case it was micros~3 but yours may be different. In my case the next folder was office11 which does not contain any spaces, therefore there is no need to go deeper. On your system, if the next folder name contains spaces, repeat the above process to find the short file name. Continue doing this until the short name of all folders are determined.
Step4: Tell HUDplus where wordview is located: Clicking on the HUDplus icon. Select CONFIG: SYSTEM. Tap page up to page 9 of 9. Tap enter to accept the value in line one. A message informing "About to test" appears. Tap Enter. Notepad should appear. Close it. Answer Y, the program started correctly. Now you are on line 2. Type in the appropriate program location determined in step 3. In my case, I typed in c:\progra~1\micros~3\wordview.exe . You will type in the short folder names determined in step 3 followed with "wordview.exe", and tap enter. About to test appears. Tap enter. Wordview should appear. If it does, all is correct. Close it. Did it start correctly? appears. Just tap ESC all the way back to the main menu of HUDplus. Wordview is now correctly installed into HUDplus.
